Hosted by Del Sampson on Sunday 6th April
in Stourbridge, West Midlands, the WAKO Midlands Open was
yet again another fine example of one of the regular circuit
events, showcasing some of the best kickboxers from all
over the UK. Temple was well represented by a small group

Held
over 14th & 15th of March the Austrian
Classics Open is one of the Blue Riband events held
across Europe, hosting top teams such as SAP Europe, Team
Best Fighter, Top Ten UK, Team Kiraly etc. With last year's
competition having over 800 competitors from 16 countries
it is an extremely high calibre occasion.
Natasha Walker travelled across with a group of British
Fighters from GBMAA and Top Ten UK, meeting up with some
more from Bristol Death Squad over there. Tasha performed
superbly in her Light Contact division, getting all the
way to the final, only to be beaten by a powerful Hungarian
girl. Although not getting into the medals in Semi Contact,
she managed to get through to the 3rd round (1/4 s), going
out in sudden death to a Team Kiraly fighter. All in all,
a very commendable debut at this particularly impressive
event.
Europe’s largest Martial Arts Open
event was held once again at the National Basketball Arena,
Dublin. Taking place over the first weekend in March, as
per usual, the competition is now regarded by many as the
No1 Open Competition in Europe of the year, with competitors
from all over the World in attendance. With many categories
having far greater numbers of competitors than many World
Championships, any success here is particularly commendable.
The 2007 Event saw 27 Countries attend with over 2500+ fighters
on the mat.
Representing Perth Temple at the event
for the first time this year were Amber & Adam Shearer,
who both put on admirable performances in the Semi Contact
on Sunday, with Amber displaying a gritty attitude up against
a much older, and experienced fighter.
The only senior fighter from Perth this year was Natasha
Walker, who took part in both Light & Semi Contact
Ladies -65kg. Tasha managed to secure impressive Bronzes
in both categories, with the Light section having nearly
30 fighters, and the Semi Contact section having nearly
60! Well done!
The
first event of the year was quick to come
around, with this year's WKA Scottish Championships
being held on Sunday 20th January, 2008,
at the Tryst Sports Centre, Cumbernauld.
This event also acted as the official qualifier
for the Scotland Team that will be traveling
to Disneyland, Florida, for the WKA World
Championships to be held later in the year.
The event ran particularly smoothly, with
a big "thank you" to all the referees,
judges, table officials and helpers who
assisted in achieving this.
Temple managed to achieve some superb results,
with the following students all qualifying
for Florida -

in the ring with a superb display against a much heavier
opponent. Ryan Lyall was pushed by local favourite
David Firth. in an extremely skillful display from
both fighters, with Ryan just coming out on top in
the end.
Congrats also to Dundee youngster Nathan Towns who
also put on a fine performance, again coming out on
